Tropical Storm Harvey could weaken into depression in less than 12 hours – U.S. NHC

Tropical Storm Harvey is expected to weaken in less than 12 hours however catastrophic and life-threatening flooding continues in southeastern Texas and parts of southwestern Louisiana, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Wednesday.

The forecast weakening will not eliminate the risk of continued heavy rainfall and flooding along Harvey’s path, although the system’s faster motion will keep subsequent rainfall totals well below what occurred over southeastern Texas.

The storm is about 50 miles north of Lake Charles, Louisiana, with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour.
